One of the most practical and important topics in the CATIA software is the topic of reverse engineering using the point cloud method. Removing complex parts and increasing speed and accuracy in reverse engineering, the use of this method is very common and important.
The point cloud is actually a file containing the 3D coordinates of a large number of points in space, which are captured by imaging devices. A special one called Scanner Three Next, it is prepared from the surface of the desired part, which is called digitization. This work is called reverse engineering on the point cloud file.
Reverse Engineering Environment in Katya Software:
Katia software as one of the most powerful engineering design software has three highly advanced and professional environments in the field of reverse engineering using the point cloud method.
Digitized shape editor
Quick surface reconstruction
Shape sculptor
Sometimes, due to problems such as high economic cost, embargo, etc., it is not possible to import industrial parts. This issue is more colorful in developing countries. In this situation, a sample of the piece is imported and its image is prepared with the help of a 3D scanner. Then, during the engineering processes, the information related to the redesign of the part and its production is obtained. "Reverse engineering" is a process that provides the possibility of obtaining information about the design and construction of a product by breaking it down into smaller parts. This process begins with an answer rather than a question. Katia software is widely used in the field of reverse engineering of industrial parts and equipment. In mechanical engineering, reverse engineering is used to understand the design and production process of parts. There are different ways to perform reverse engineering on mechanical or non-mechanical systems. In this article, we introduce the use of the famous Katia software in the field of reverse engineering.
reverse engineering in Katya?

What is the reverse engineering environment in Katya?
The reverse engineering environment in CATIA is known as Digitized Shape Editor.
What path do we get to the reverse engineering environment in Katya?
To access this environment, select Shape from the Start menu and then click on Digitized Shape Editor.
What are the Mesh's Quality Review and Improvement Commands in CATIA Software?
To check and improve mesh quality, there are several different tools such as Flip Edges, Mesh Cleaner and Fill Holes.
What are the inverse engineering steps in CATIA?
Entering the Digitized Shape Editor environment, importing the part, meshing the cloud of points, checking the quality of the mesh and converting the mesh to a surface are the six main steps for reverse engineering in Ketia.
Reverse engineering is one of the production methods that can reach the final goal, which is an industrial part, with high speed and low time and cost. The main basis of this method is extracting the basic knowledge of parts from the original part, and finally we get a part similar to the original part. In other words, in reverse engineering, the engineering process is done from the end to the beginning. Reverse engineering is mostly done in developing countries and engineers in this method are trying to reduce their distance with developed countries by reverse engineering in a short time. Reverse engineering is mainly used in medicine, military industries and industry.
Reverse engineering has different methods. In one of these, we design the part using images of parts and two-dimensional images in the software. In this method, the reverse engineering process is done using Dxf file. In this tutorial we will look at reverse engineering using point cloud and mesh files. For reverse engineering with cloud point and mesh files, first, it is necessary to scan the original part with various 3D scanners and optical cameras, and the original design of the part is obtained as a set of points. Then, this point cloud file is converted into a mesh file in design software, and half of the reverse engineering process ends here. Then we look for the design of the surface on the mesh file, and after the detailed design of the surface, we enter the solid design environments and create the final part, and at this moment we compare the designed part with the original part. If the accuracy of the part is high, we can produce the designed part and use it in the industry.
Engineering software has made the process of reverse engineering easier. Nowadays, many reverse engineering softwares have come to help engineers, which have increased the accuracy and speed of reverse engineering. One of these softwares is the Katia engineering software, one of them is very powerful and accurate in the field of reverse engineering.
The Katia software produced by Dassault Systemes is a powerful software in the field of CAD and CAM, and in the field of CAE, engineers need it. solves Katia software has a very easy environment.
Application of Cloud Dots Training in Katya
The cloud of points, known in English as the term Cloud of Points, is a 3D file that is created by photographing the surface of the part. This process is performed by a special 3D scanner device, the output of which is a number of points in space, which includes a set of cloud points.
